This was a memorable excursion into the magnificent Victorian High Country. Our journey commenced by travelling up Buttercup/Carters Roads to Tomahawk Gap, then ascending No. 3 Track to the lookout. We continued on down Westons Track before climbing back to the ridge along Mine Creek track. Being up on the snow plains on the No 3 track, we stopped for a morning tea break at Refuge Hut to take in the views. It was time to descend back to Tomahawk Gap and turn onto Buckland Spur, stopping on route at Tomahawk Hut. After crossing Buckland Spur, we descended to the picturesque Lake William Hovell for lunch. After splashing our way across the King River, we ascended Wabonga Plateau and camped near the Wabonga Block. Next day we ascended the Burnt Top track over the Razor and down to Pineapple Flat. After crossing the King River again, we followed the King Basin track to King Hut, before heading up Speculation track to the Circuit Road. One final 4WD enjoyment was to drive up the Monument Track to Craigs Hut to take in the sensational views. |
