| Mitchells Muster (the background) George & Stephen Hoskin first came across Mitchells Flat. Gold had been discovered in the area in the early 1860s by Robert Wren and Thomas Laken while they were searching for a stolen horse. They worked their claim for 2 years before selling it to Fred Mitchell, who named the locality Mitchell’s Creek. In 1881, Georges grandfather – William Hoskin saw potential in the land, and took out a lease of 1,000 acres and moved his family to Mitchell’sFlat. Now, in 2009, the first TLCC Vic Mitchells Muster has been run; to explore this tranquil valley and the challenging 4WD tracks surrounding it. |
